Profile:
Matana Masana is a seasoned political leader and dedicated public servant with over three decades of experience in youth development, governance, and community service. Her career demonstrates unwavering commitment to democratic principles, transparent governance, and the empowerment of women and youth.

Political Leadership and Public Service:
Matana Masana began her leadership journey in 1990 as an additional member of COSAS at Reddersburg Public School. She quickly progressed, becoming Deputy Chairperson of COSAS in 1996 and serving on the Student Representative Council (SRC).

Within the African National Congress (ANC), her leadership spans branch, regional, and women’s structures:

  • Branch Level: Treasurer (2004–2006), Deputy Secretary, and volunteer since 1990.
  • Community Structures: Deputy Chairperson of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) (2009–2010); Chairperson of the School Governing Body (SGB) at Beang Tse Molemo Secondary School (2010).
  • Regional Leadership: Co-opted to the ANC Regional Executive Committee (REC) and elected to the Regional Working Committee (RWC) in 2010; directly elected REC member in 2014.
  • ANC Women’s League: Secretary (2007–2009), Deputy Secretary of the regional committee (2007–2011), and branch executive committee member (2010–2012). Chaired the Social Transformation Committee and contributed to the Provincial Audit Team.

In public office, she has served as PR Councillor for Xhariep District (2009–2011), PR Councillor and Speaker for Kopanong Local Municipality (2011–2016), and currently as Chief Whip and Whip of Council (2021–2026). She contributes to Section 80 Committees overseeing Local Economic Development (LED) and Integrated Development Planning (IDP), as well as the Local Labour Forum Committee, and chairs Xhariep District Women in Commission (2023–2026). In recognition of her leadership, she received the Best Achievement Award from the National Women in Commission in 2025.

Education and Professional Development:
Matana Masana holds a National Certificate in Public Relations Management from IQ Academy and has completed computer training in Community Information Services, Internet Orientation, and SABINET programs. She also completed Councillors Development Practice (NQF Level 3) and a Certificate in Municipal Finance Management (NQF Level 6) through LGSETA, equipping her with the knowledge and skills for effective governance and municipal oversight.
